$2m Village Enhancement works to commence with Tree Planting

Cabonne Council will commence the $2 million Village Enhancement program with the Street Tree Planting project.

Street tree master plans have already been prepared for the Shire’s towns and villages some time ago and the opportunity exists to implement these plans and the “wish list” of capital improvements submitted by progress associations and the community generally.

Trial plantings will be commenced in Molong and Canowindra with the planting of “Mop Top Robina” trees along the Eastern side of Watson Street coming into town. The “Mop Top” variety was chosen for its versatility, tolerance of poor soil and its lush green foliage. It was essential to chose a variety that would not interfere with power lines.

The master plans select tree varieties to suit individual towns and villages instead of uniform plantings for all localities. The initial plan would be of advanced trees, with the establishment of a nursery to provide a stock of trees of various varieties to be available in future years.

Plantings are expected to commence in the next few weeks.
